Oh What A Night! Last night I was lucky enough to attend the Press Night of the UK Tour of Jersey Boys at the New Wimbledon Theatre. It was one of the hottest days of the year, but thankfully, the show was every bit as brilliant as the weather was scorching.
You don’t have to be a fan of The Four Seasons to enjoy the show because you’ll probably recognise more songs than you expect! Hearing classics like ‘December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)’ and ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ live was amazing, but I also loved discovering so many others. My dad, who came with me, knew every single one, so it was really fun seeing us both enjoy the show from completely different generations.
I loved that Jersey Boys isn’t just a concert of famous songs. Behind all the brilliant music is a story about friendship, success and the sacrifices that can come with chasing your dreams. It made me laugh one minute and then really surprised me with how emotional it became.
The chemistry between the four lead actors felt completely natural, and the harmonies that made The Four Seasons so famous were on point throughout. Luke Baker’s effortless take on Frankie Valli’s iconic falsetto was especially impressive.
The choreography was slick, and the seamless transitions between scenes kept the story moving at just the right pace. By the finale, the entire audience was on their feet and the atmosphere in the theatre was incredible.
Whether you’re discovering the music for the first time or already know every song, Jersey Boys has something for everyone. It’s a joyful, heartfelt and thoroughly entertaining night at the theatre, and I’d definitely recommend grabbing a ticket!
Jersey Boys is at the New Wimbledon Theatre until 27 June and is embarking on a major UK tour. Next up are Nottingham Concert Hall from 30 June and Bristol Hippodrome from 6 July!
