Annie UK & Ireland Tour

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the Press Night for the Annie UK and Ireland Tour, and honestly, it was one of the most fantastic feel-good versions of Annie I have ever seen! From the second the curtain went up until the final bows, the entire audience was completely engaged.

The younger cast was absolutely incredible. Every single orphan brought so much personality and energy to their role, and their singing and dancing honestly blew me away. ‘Hard Knock Life’ was one of the standout moments of the whole show for me because the orphans performed it with such power, precision and intent.

And of course, Annie herself, played by the super talented Victoria Alsina - who actually happens to be my classmate at the wonderful Sylvia Young Theatre School! I’ve always known Victoria (or Vicky, as I know her) can sing, dance and act, but this was the first time I have seen her in a professional production and she could not have been better cast. She was simply amazing. Her vocals were outstanding, she had a brilliant stage presence and she completely captured Annie’s determination, warmth and charm. I honestly felt so proud watching her perform.

All of the cast were fabulous, but special mention to La Voix who was absolutely fantastic as Miss Hannigan. She played the role perfectly, with just the right amount of meanness mixed with brilliant humour, with incredible charisma. Grace, played by Tanisha-Mae Brown, wow, her voice was absolutely beautiful and she brought so much elegance and warmth to the role.

The whole production was so professional. The costumes and scenery were perfect, the set changes were flawless, and the orchestra sounded amazing throughout. Every musical number was packed with energy, excellent choreography and powerful vocals.

But honestly… the true star of the show might have been Dizzy, aka Sandy the dog! The adorable little cockapoo completely stole everyone’s hearts.

Overall, I would wholeheartedly encourage everyone to go and see Annie. It’s packed with talent, heart and so much joy - a truly brilliant night at the theatre!
